: Matchitehew Assembly (Day 2)
So on Saturday was the 2nd day of the Matchitehew Assembly (I didn't go to the first). On the way there I was a little lost, but I was able to find my way there. I got there around 5, when it was supposed to start, but my friend Rosenthal told me that yesterday everything was really delayed and it would probably be like that today as well. So while I waited I hung around down stairs most of the time, and I also helped out at the Velnias merch table a couple times, though only like one CD was sold that day.
There was a lot of cool merch downstairs, and the selection that the Sepulchural Productions guy had was really great, I wish I could've gotten a lot more. And then I saw an Absurd shirt, which I didn't even know existed, so I ended up buying it. I also talked a bit with Naeth, the vocalist of Ashdautas and got the Worship Black Twilight thing from him.
The first band to play was Burial Hex, which was some weird noise band, but nothing special. Locrian followed, who I had never seen before and they turned out pretty interesting, I enjoyed their music. After that was Maledicere which was the first black metal of the night. The band put up these rotting skull things with incense in them, but since I was right in front it started to smell. They played a fairly aggressive and intense set, somewhat like Hate Forest, and now I wish I bought something of theirs since I had no luck finding it online, aside from a youtube vid. Wormsblood followed, who I had listened to and they were a weird experimentally black metal band and I was wondering how it would turn out. The vocalist looked like one of the last people that would be in a black metal band, but overall everything turned out really cool, especially the weird tribal song that the band did towards the end.
Once the sets were changed, Volahn was up next, who I was really excited for because the album sounds really damn awesome. Live the band was fairly good, but didn't reach the greatness as on the album. Ashdautas was up then, and at first I wasn't really looking forward to them, but once they began to play it seemed very different from what I had heard (much more depressivey type bm) and the vocalist was really really into it. They played one 5 min song and then one 25 min song, which will be on a bone Awl split later in the year. At the end of their performance the vocalist was on the side and it almost seemed like he was crying and then he just collapsed over and was like that for a couple minutes. He seemed disoriented afterwards, but later on he was talking to my friend and I about how they had signed the contract to be on Southern Lord, but then at a Sunn show he went up to Greg and said "You guys use Marshall amps rightt?" and he replied "No, we use Sunn amps, asshole" and then the contract got ripped up later on.
Aside from the late start, everything at the show was going smoothly until Aborted Christ Childe came on. Basically they're a bm band from the early nineties that released one demo, and thats it. I guess some kvlt thing was to be expected, but instead a guy in platform shoes and some extremely drunk guy just screwed around. It was pretty funny I guess, but a big waste of time. The drunk drummer ended up pushing over the drum kit, and then later on started banging the mic on the drum and yelling into it. I went downstairs again because I didn't really want to listen to Air Conditioning or Rusted Shut. I also got the Silencer album for Kristina :D while down there. Rosenthal later told that basically Rusted Shut broke up during the show, so I went up stairs and the drunk vocalist ended up getting into a fight with some other guy.
Finally it was going to be time for Bone Awl (and at this point it was between 1-2am), so everyone gathered around really close and they started playing their brand of raw black metal mixed with punk and oi! Their live performance was really great and most everyone was into it. At the end people cheered one for "one more!" so Bone Awl played one final song. Krieg was on last and now it was past 2 am. I felt pretty bad for thm given how late it was and that a good deal of people left after Bone Awl. They definitely weren't at their best, and the crowd was pretty damn tired as well. Their set lasted only around 35-40 min and then it was time to leave (at about 2:50 am @_@)
